Pokwang in Tears as Comedienne Shares Heartbreaking Loss of PHP85,000 from GCash Account

Comedienne and TV host Pokwang couldn’t hold back her tears as she publicly shared the distressing loss of PHP85,000 from her GCash mobile wallet.

In an emotional Instagram Live on Saturday, November 9, 2024, Pokwang revealed that almost PHP85,000—funds she worked hard to build up for her gourmet business—disappeared from her account without her knowledge. The comedienne, who’s recently revived her business from the ground up, was devastated by the unexpected loss, which included money meant to pay her employees, many of whom are single mothers.

Fighting back tears, she expressed her frustration, saying, "I rebuilt this business on my own, with the help of friends who lent me money. It’s been a slow climb, but I was finally able to provide jobs again. Then, suddenly, everything I saved up was gone in an instant."

Pokwang is now appealing to GCash’s management for assistance in retrieving her lost funds, emphasizing that these were her hard-earned savings. "GCash, please, I hope you can do something. Our hard-earned money, including our employees’ salaries, is gone," she pleaded.

Adding to the confusion, Pokwang noted that her PHP85,000 was transferred to around 30 different numbers, all without her receiving any one-time passwords (OTP)—a standard security measure GCash uses for every transaction. "What happened to our registered SIM policy? How did thirty transactions occur, to different numbers, without a single OTP?" she questioned, highlighting her concern over the platform's security.

For Pokwang, the experience is more than just a financial setback—it’s a painful reminder of the risks that digital transactions can pose, especially for small business owners who rely on every peso they earn.
